Appellate Advocacy

We represent individuals, businesses, and labor organizations before Maryland’s appellate courts and in the United States Courts of Appeal. Our appellate advocacy consists of attorneys with substantial appellate experience on a wide range of issues

Our appellate attorneys have briefed and argued appeals before the Maryland Court of Appeals, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, and several of the federal appellate courts. Joel A. Smith has appeared before State and federal appellate courts for more than thirty years. Francis J. CollinsKeith J. Zimmerman, and David Gray Wright have appeared before the Maryland appellate courts regularly. As a result, we have helped established notable precedent in such varied areas as election law, administrative law, and employment law.

We may be called upon to handle appeals of cases in which we did not serve as trial counsel. We are available to represent clients seeking to challenge adverse decisions and clients seeking to protect favorable decisions. We are also able to craft amicus curiae briefs, i.e. “friend of the court” briefs.
